Dan and Kellie's Wedding Day At The Arctic Club Hotel - Seattle

Dan and Kellie's Wedding Day At The Arctic Club Hotel - SeattleDan and Kellie Cocoran
The Arctic Club Hotel - September 27, 2008

Dan and Kellie Corcoran's beautiful wedding ceremony and evening celebration at the Arctic Club Hotel at the end of September was a marvelous and memorable event. Dan and Kellie were married in the remodeled hotel's historic "dome room" and the evening candle lit ceremony was attended by 130 family and friends.

This was a wedding that I not only officiated but also served as "day of coordinator," as I do this for a handful of my couples each year. Kate McElwee of www.katemcelweephotography.com captured the day with beautiful photos including the one above and the hotel's catering coordinator, Carmen del Rosario, was truly delightful to work with - the hotel staff went above and beyond for Dan and Kellie on their wedding day.
******
Dan and Kellie, I wish you a blessed married life together!

Islandwood on Bainbridge Island Hosted Steve and Gabe's Wedding Weekend ~ Kudos To Everyone! Steve & Gabe ~ Islandwood/Bainbridge Island, WA January 30, 2010

Steve and Gabe were married at one of Bainbridge Island's treasures - Islandwood. Islandwood is now hosting seven weddings each year and Steve and Gabe were fortunate to be "wedding #2." Allyson, Jaime, Marla and the staff at Islandwood did an extraordinarily job in helping me to pull together this couple's Interfaith wedding ceremony. Olympia-based Photographer Andrea Latham (www.andrealathamphotography.com) created lifetime memories for our couple with exquisite photos.

There was so much joy in the room as Steve and Gabe were married under a hand-made Chuppah. Family and friends participated in the wedding ceremony and Steve and Gabe incorporated rituals and elements from their Jewish and Catholic traditions. In this work that I do, I love it when a couple creates a robust wedding ceremony that is full of sacred moments, gratitude, fun and joy.

First Date Tips For Guys & Girls

por | | 0 comments
Do you believe there is an amazing partner out there for you? Or do you believe that you've already met your prefect paramour and all you've got to do is navigate the choppy waters of that all important first date to get the show on the road? I live in the centre of the universe (London) but the rules of the dating game are the same wherever you live, and if you follow my tips and advice, then it's a game that you're going to win.

FOR GUYS...

1) Be confident (and if you don’t feel confident – act it!) – women love confidence in a man, they find this incredibly sexy.

2) Take charge and revel in your masculine energy; ladies love to relax on dates knowing that you have organised all the details. It's up to you to decide where to go, book a table etc.

3) Ask her questions about herself that allow her to open up; listen intently and make sure you nod, um and arrhhh in all the right places.

4) If you really like the girl, take her flowers on the first date (the bigger the bunch the more points you score!) Women love romance so if you can romance a lady, then you're already at first base.

5) Be attentive to her needs, make sure she is not too hot/ cold, that she has a drink etc; women notice small details like that.

6) Look at her as much as you can (no ogling though!); women love attention and they like to feel like they are being admired.

7) If you can afford it, pay for her on the first date. You don't have to go anywhere expensive - a local gastro-pub will do. But don't come across a bit of a meanie as first impressions last.

8) Take her somewhere on a first date that encourages conversation - perhaps for meal and a nice glass of wine - but in a bar or restaurant that isn't too noisy. Remember, if you go somewhere like the cinema or a football match, then you wont be able to chat and get to know each other.

9) Women always look at shoes, be sure yours reflect the right image!

10) A great smell can make a lasting impression. I have often heard women talk about a guy's after-shave so make sure you stock up on the CK1!

FOR GIRLS...

1) Wait for a guy to ask you out – this may sound old fashioned but men love the chase, allow yourself to be pursued and enjoy it.

2) Allow him to book a table, open doors, pay you compliments, pay for the meal etc; give him control of the first date!

3) Be happy and be the type of person that men want to be with; radiate good energy, smile and your date will be all the more entranced.

4) Approach the date with the aim of having fun; forget about whether he is Mr Right and focus on just enjoying yourself and having a good time.

5) Compliment a man, the things he is doing for you, the choice of meal etc – men love this.

6) Take an interest in HIS interests. Don't just talk about yourself and what you like to do.

7) Don't mention your 'ex'! There'll come a time in any relationship when both of you will talk about your past relationships. Unless the guy specifically brings up the subject, a first date really isn't the time.

8) Turn your mobile 'phone off. If you're taking calls from your friends or reading texts, your date will soon lose interest. Only keep your phone switched on if you're expecting a VERY important call.

9) If the guy has invited you out for a meal, be careful how much you spend on his credit card. You don't necessarily have to choose the cheapest items on the menu, but don't order lobster and Champagne either. If a man invites you out for dinner on a first date, don't use it as an excuse to indulge yourself in a way that you wouldn't do if you were paying for yourself.

10) Say thank you - in fact you should say it twice; at the end of the date as you're saying goodnight and then either in a follow-up 'phone call or by text message the next day. Even if you don't want to see him again (in which case, thank him by text!), you don't want to give him the impression that you have no manners.

A Beautiful Wedding At The Woodmark Hotel ~ July 3, 2010 ~ And We Had Sweet Sunshine!

por | | 0 comments

A Beautiful Wedding At The Woodmark Hotel ~ July 3, 2010 ~ And We Had Sweet Sunshine! Jeff and Emily Haines were married at The Woodmark Hotel this past Saturday, July 3rd.
*****
And for their 6:00 p.m. wedding ceremony, the clouds parted and we had beautiful sunshine!
Jeff and Emily worked with me to create a wedding ceremony that was truly reflective of "them" and their relationship. It was part sacred, part fun and most of all, hugely authentic.
Jeff and Emily wrote personal words to each other before their formal wedding vows and being the spunky gal that Emily is, just stole the show with her joy and verve! (Jeff - how lucky are you?!)
And for a flourish at the end, after a beautiful kiss and being pronounced as husband and wife, Jeff and Emily pulled sunglasses from their pockets and wore shades and danced down the aisle! Yes, Emily's beautiful wedding dress had pockets!
Jeff and Emily ~ enjoy Mexico!

The Prophet of Islam (saw) said
There is no better structure founded in Islam other than marriage.

Imam ali said (as)
Engage in marriage; because this is the tradition of the Prophet (saw) of Allah.and Women are like flowers. They should be treated gently, kindly, and with affection.

Prophet of Islam (saw)
A bad woman does not forgive her husband's mistake and does not accept his apology

(quran)He created for you mates from among yourselves, that ye may dwell in tranquillity with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts) . . . " (Holy Quran 30:21, Yusuf Ali Translation).

In the Qur'an, the marriage relationship is described as one with "tranquility," "love" and "mercy." Elsewhere in the Qur'an, husband and wife are described as "garments" for each other (2:187). Garments offer protection, comfort, modesty, and warmth. Above all, the Qur'an describes that the best garment is the "garment of God-consciousness" (7:26).

And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves that you may dwell in tranquility with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts). Verily in that are Signs for those who reflect" (30: 21).

Having Worked With Dozens Of Wedding Photographers, Here's A Little Guidance From The "Wedding Front Line..."

Having Worked With Dozens Of Wedding Photographers, Here's A Little Guidance From The "Wedding Front Line..." Dustin & Erin ~ Alderbrook Resort, Waterside Fall '09
photo: the fabulous Jenny GG www.jennygg.com

I was visiting Photographer Jenny GG at her new Studio in Seattle yesterday and fell in love with a canvas portrait she had just completed of Dustin and Erin - it is an incredible shot of the bottom of their legs - wedding formal wear, bare feet on the Alderbrook Resort boat dock - very fun. And a perfect wall memento for this terrific couple whose wedding we fondly remember from this past October.

Each year, I work with dozens of photographers - many of whom I see more than twice. As one of the only "vendors" at a wedding on a wedding day, I have the remarkable opportunity to know these terrific guys/gals who take on the enormous task (and stressful) of capturing a wedding day.

If you are selecting and/or working with a wedding photographer this year, here are a few important pointers to keep in mind:

- Personality: Find a photographer or team whose personality you like. This is a big/huge job and finding a Photo God/Goddess whose approach to life is key in extracting those "once in a lifetime shots." In other words, if you are out-going and charismatic in personality, go with a photographer with a similar approach.

- Money: Yes, it costs a pretty penny (no matter what the budget) for a Photographer. And in my book, spend a little more to get the best Photographer possible - shave money from the cake, favors and flowers. Cake - a lot gets left behind at weddings. Favor: many get left at the reception. Flowers: what about giving each Bridesmaid a special/beautiful flower instead of a bouquet?

- Fun: Most of my couples want "happy wedding photos" - not the structure "line-ups" of years past. Work with your photographer to create a purposeful fun photo or two ahead of time - you'll love the result!

Title: The Fantasy Art of Boris Vallejo

Born in Lima, Peru, Boris attended the National School of Fine Arts in his native country before immigrating to the United States in 1964. He has since done a great volume of work for the Fantasy field, having worked for virtually every major publishing house with a science fiction/fantasy line. Boris has also illustrated for album covers, video box art and motion picture advertising.

His mastery of oil painting is immediately and abundantly clear to anyone who looks at his work, and his classic sense is as much an homage to the old masters as it is to anyone contemporaneously working in the Fantasy genre.

For sheer dauntless bravura, few have ever pushed the limits as does Boris with his beautiful maidens and fearsome monsters.
