Steve & Gabe ~ Islandwood/Bainbridge Island, WA January 30, 2010
Steve and Gabe were married at one of Bainbridge Island's treasures - Islandwood. Islandwood is now hosting seven weddings each year and Steve and Gabe were fortunate to be "wedding #2." Allyson, Jaime, Marla and the staff at Islandwood did an extraordinarily job in helping me to pull together this couple's Interfaith wedding ceremony. Olympia-based Photographer Andrea Latham (www.andrealathamphotography.com) created lifetime memories for our couple with exquisite photos.
There was so much joy in the room as Steve and Gabe were married under a hand-made Chuppah. Family and friends participated in the wedding ceremony and Steve and Gabe incorporated rituals and elements from their Jewish and Catholic traditions. In this work that I do, I love it when a couple creates a robust wedding ceremony that is full of sacred moments, gratitude, fun and joy.

?Wondering how to be romantic and creative with your partner or date? Perhaps you are single and interested in dating someone and want to show your interest. Maybe you are in a committed relationship and feeling burdened by work and dont have time nor the funds to whip up a second honeymoon. Either way, you care about your partner and would like to show it, but may not have a clue as to what you should be doing. Good news! I am here to provide some romantic suggestions that work for both genders. Once you read a few, youll be able to come up with your own ideas inexpensive, more original than flowers, more memorable than a Rolex and suitable for every day of the year.
1. Grocery shopping for dinner with a new date? Remember what he or she likes, then plan to have some of the same items on hand for your next visit. Hold hands at the checkout counter.
2. In a traffic jam? Even if you two are simply waiting for the light to change in the car or crossing the street, lean over and give a kiss. Youll get a smile a response.
3. Busy schedule? Meet your mate at the door with his/her slippers, bathrobe, and a soothing drink.
3a. Same as number 3, but add wearing your own slippers, bathrobe, etc.
4. Little spontaneous notes can be packed in with lunches, placed near the coffee pot, left on a pillow, even taped to the bathroom mirror.
5. Always unlock the car door for your partner. If you are the driver, open the passenger door first. If you are seated in the car, reach over and unlock the other door.
6. Cant afford a romantic getaway? Enjoy a cozy evening at home just the two of you - and PLAN one. There is much fun to be had in the planning. Youll see.
7. Call him/her when you witness or think of something funny during your day. (Note: dont have a cell phone? It is time to get one.)
8. Share a picnic. If the weather isnt cooperating, spread a blanket and big, fluffy pillow on the living room floor and have a picnic there!
9. At least once a day, find a reason to thank your partner. Whether it is for taking you on a date, taking out the garbage, being your best friend, or simply just for making you smile, say thank you.
10. Sit or play outside together. It doesnt have to be a sunset cruise to be memorable. You dont have to climb Mt. Everest for excitement. Let nature take its course. It is easy as gazing at the stars.
The above covers only a fraction of the possibilities. It should, however, be enough to get you started. Try a few. Youll find that you come up with your own ideas easily. Best of all, your relationship will stay fresh and be enhanced as well. So, lets get creative, shall we? Heres to your romance!

The Mother of the Groom. I've had the pleasure of meeting so many women whose sons are getting married. And interestingly enough, I'm not sure I know anything for sure about "the Mother of the Groom."
And so, I ponder this thought on this late Friday evening...
- Why do I occasionally feel that the Mother of the Groom seems to be pushed to the side with regard to wedding planning and her role in a wedding?
hmmmm....
As you are planning your wedding, consider that with all of the hoopla that goes with all things "wedding," to fully include your Mother of the Groom as appropriate. Shower her with emails, invite her to gatherings, give her a role in the ceremony beyond walking down the aisle. Consider using your wedding as a stepping stone to a deeper relationship with your Mother-in-Law to be - no matter what the status of your relationship - close and intimate, touchy and cautious, curious in all ways or inspiring in all ways!

*** My debut album is in all stores and on iTunes now !! ***
This is me playing piano and singing Linkin Park's What Ive Done. I don't know how the video turned out this way but it looks like i'm in heaven...?? except that there wouldn't be that funky dining table in the background.
I love this ceremony work that I do very much. AND a big part of my volunteer life evolves around rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing neglected/abused and "death row" dogs. So, I am going to disgress from "everything wedding" for a moment. If you or someone you know loves cocker spaniels and would love to adopt a special needs boy who is spunky, adventurous, courageous and very handsome, please let me know. Handsome Henry has had quite a journey so far in his 3+ years and one of my rescue groups is searching for a most beautiful home for him.

James and Elaine were married at the marvelous Mayflower Park hotel in late April in downtown Seattle. Married in the upper level foyer of the hotel's lobby near the fireplace, James and Elaine's wedding ceremony was a mix of the traditional, the contemporary and with a bit of fun. And let's not forget the "fire truck" and the photos on the truck truck immediately following their ceremony (James is one of those handsome firemen!).
If you looking for a unique and history filled venue for your ceremony and celebration, consider the Mayflower Park Hotel. The staff is amazing and don't get me started on the food!

Title: COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE, COLLECTIVE STUPIDITY, AND THE REAR VIEW MIRROR
Back in the 60s, shortly before the Mayflower, I was involved in Intelligence Research and found that the individual IQ could be elevated from an average of 102 to 140 give or take within 90 days. The method I applied was the managed exposure to challenging information. Following Google and YouTube I repeatedly pointed to the significant increase of available data that improves the playground for the human Intelligence by its mere presence.
--- Dr. Thomas Malone of MITs Center for Collective Intelligence defined the concept of collective intelligence as doing things collectively that seem intelligent. I would add to that the collective ability to solve problems. Of course there are caveats. Dr. Malone points to the fact that collective intelligence is just as real as collective stupidity. --- Interesting concept. Lets take the rear view mirror and look at the last eight years. The caveat I mentioned is that leaders with a certain degree of intellectual inflexibility use fear to keep the collective from demanding action, or for that matter even questioning the ability to lead. By the way, that does not only apply to leaders, it applies as well to Senators, as you experienced. --- The human brain itself is the most marvelous thing imaginable to the analyst. Now take the collective brain. And then go one step further and imagine that the AVERAGE IQ is raised to 140 not at all impossible as I showed in the 60s. But then it would take a leader who concentrates on the advancement of mankind. Think about it. Just think about the potential to solve the collective problems we face!
Title: Gloria Feldt on Margaret Sanger: Brooklyn Museum
In honor of the birthday of Planned Parenthood's founder, Margaret Sanger, feminist writer and commentator Gloria Feldt discusses Sanger's life and work, the history of the birth-control movement, the role that birth control plays in women's equality and empowerment, and what activists today can learn about leadership from Sanger's organizing. This event took place at the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art on September 13, 2009. Video courtesy Elizabeth A. Sackler Foundation.
