COCKER SPANIEL "HONEY BEAR" - JUST LOOK AT THIS FACE!

por | | 0 comments

COCKER SPANIEL "HONEY BEAR" - JUST LOOK AT THIS FACE!The Story of "Honey Bear"
Rescued from a hell hole in January.
Adopted to a loving home in February.

A big part of my life is dog rescue and rehabilitation and I've been doing this work in Seattle for more than 15 years. My husband, Greg and I, have four dogs at our home/property on Bainbridge Island - and during the past couple of years, we have taken care of special needs dogs who have spent the their last months with us.

I was part of a team that rescued "Honey Bear" in January. We found her living in filth and neglect in a shed with a heat lamp. After getting her urgent veterinary care and grooming, we discovered the sweetest little cocker girl underneath all of her filth and mats. She was fostered by a loving couple for several weeks and adopted by a lovely woman named Amy. Amy and Honey Bear are living together in Port Orchard and best of all, Honey Bear goes to work every day with Amy and the two are practically joined at the hip!

So, on this chilly March evening as I am working to find a foster home for another rescued dog - I offer you Honey Bear's picture and story for no other reason than to share the joy I feel when a dog is released from suffering and is insured of love and kindness for the rest of it's life. Woof!

Planning Your 2009 Wedding - A Few Tips From "Behind The Scenes..."Love Those Smiles! Derrick & Liz
August, 2008 ~ Ed Hume Seeds Company

As I meet with couples this month and throughout the Fall for 2009, I'd like to share a few tips for your ceremony that will help you save money:

- Plan Your Ceremony For Mid-Day and Enjoy Brunch or Lunch: You'll save money by getting married in the late morning or early afternoon - enjoy a celebration lunch or brunch instead of a more formal or lavish dinner.

- Plan a Weekday Wedding, i.e., Monday-Friday: That's right! More of my couples are getting married on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evening and save on all vendor categories. In addition, these couples are getting a significant discount from their venue/reception site for booking space that "is just sitting there."

- Stay "Local" - You'll save money by staying "local" and will avoid some of the hidden expenses of destination weddings, i.e., more hotel nights, transportation expenses for vendors, etc.

The Purpose, Planning and Packing your Bug-Out-Bag 1/3

This video series goes over information concerning the 'Bug-Out-Bag'. For those just starting out this will give you a good idea on the basics of building your own BOB.

the Bug-Out-Bag

Survival Kit

Ten Essentials
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Essentials

BOBs are not new but are gaining popularity as ppl understand that they need to be responsible for the safety of themselves and their family members. Lots of info on BOBs can be found on the internet but you need to build your BOB for you, your location and the possible emergencies you might face. Many ppl cannot spend lots of money on their BOB, so the information here is geared toward those who dont have a lot of money &/or those who are just beginning to gather information on what a BOB is and how it is to be used in conjunction with various survival skills. You can have the most expensive and high tech BOB but if you cannot use the items to survival (IOW you have little or no skills) then your BOB is worthless.

A BOB is not just a bag of stuff, but tool to help you survive in an emergency. The greatest tool you have is you and your abilities to evaluate your situation, build a BOB and practice using it so your confident in your abilities and equipment. Remember this is just an introductory look and not an all inclusive video series.

I hope this helps.

Andrew and Vivian's Sunny Weekday Wedding At DeLille Cellars, Woodinville... Andrew and Vivian Seelye ~ DeLille Cellars
February 22, 2010

It was such a sweet moment on Monday the 22nd for the family and friends of Andrew and Vivian, married at the wonderful DeLille Cellars in Woodinville.

I captured this photo of Andrew and Vivian just before their ceremony. It was a treat for me to work with this couple. Together, we created a warm and intimate ceremony that reflected Andrew and Vivian's values, backgrounds and loving relationship.

Andrew and Vivian - how blessed you are to have each other! As Andrew said in his vows, "little did I know that two years ago I would find this wonderful path with you, Vivian!" Andrew, I agree!

Label:United Artists Records
Catalog#:UAST-19971, SP-189
Format:Vinyl, 12"
Country:US
Style:Disco
Credits:Arranged - Andrew Louis Smith
Producer - Jeff Lane
Written By - R. Williams

Vivian began formal voice training at the age of eight at the Pittsburgh Musical Institute, later continuing at New Yorks Juilliard School of Music followed by years of extensive dance training.

She became a polished performer under the guidance of Honi Coles and Bobby Schiffman of the Apollo Theater and soon after made an impressive Broadway debut, replacing Micki Grant in Dont Bother Me, I Cant Cope. Vivians rousing performance prompted director Vinnette Carroll to stage another production of the show in Chicago, where she revised the show to take advantage of Vivians singing, dancing and acting talents. Two years later, Vivian auditioned for the musical Bubbling Brown Sugar, the first of several popular revues based on music of the 20s and 30s. Although she was hired immediately, she soon discovered there was no existing part for her, so she created the role of Young Irene. The show toured the country to rave reviews before it opened on Broadway; likewise a smash success! Her show-stopping performance, included a dazzling song and dance production of Sweet Georgia Brown and a unique vocal rendition of God Bless the Child that won her critical acclaim, including a TONY NOMINATION, DRAMA DESK AWARD, THEATRE WORLD AWARD, OUTER CRITICS CIRCLE AWARD, NAACP AWARD and several others.

After Broadway, Vivian went to Los Angeles to open another company of Bubbling Brown Sugar and then on to Europe with the show, touring such countries as England, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Italy and France. While recognizing Vivians own unique talents, Paris proclaimed her The New Josephine Baker. She captured the attention of Pierre Cardin, who booked Vivian into his theater and held her over for several weeks. Through Cardin, she went to Japan for the first time and made her first European TV special. Later, she was invited by the Prince and Princess of Monaco to perform in Monte Carlo.

Vivian has appeared on many TV variety and talk shows both nationally and internationally including The Tonight Show, The Today Show and the ABC-TV daytime drama, One Life to Live. She has shared the bill with notable performers as Bill Cosby, Pattie Labelle, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Melba Moore, Elaine Stritch, Alan King, Sammy Davis Jr., Quincy Jones, Ashford and Simpson and Charles Aznavour, just to name a few. Her film credits include Heading for Broadway, LAfricaine with Catherine Deneuve and Le Rumba, in which she portrayed Josephine Baker.

Vivian has also brought her nightclub act to major gatherings of organization and dignitaries, including Mercedes Benz, IBM, Top Fashion Designers Gala at the Theatre Champs Elysees and the American Film Festival in Deauville. She appeared at the Festival del Vina in Chile, along with other top performers like Laura Branigan, Sting, Mister Mister and Jon Secada. There she received the coveted Torch Award, an honor bestowed by the mayor and citizens of Vina for only the most exceptional and stirring performances.

Besides her international success as an actress and entertainer, she has also been featured in the worlds most read and influential news and fashion magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Paris Match, People, Ebony, Jet (cover) and Time Magazine. Her personal style and taste for designer clothes have won her a place on Mr. Blackwells Best Dressed Women List and she was selected by People Magazine as one of the 25 Most Intriguing People of the Year.

In recent years, Vivian has starred in New York at the Rainbow and Stars in a rhythm and blues revue and the Supper Club in a swing revue. She received critical acclaim in major productions of Sophisticated Ladies, Roar of the Greasepaint, Smell of the Crowd, Blues in the Night, High Rollers in which she received a TONY NOMINATION, Show Boat in which she portrayed the role of Queenie and Tintypes. Her recent plays include Blues for an Alabama Sky, Crumbs from the table of Joy, Pork Pie and Cookin At The Cookery. Vivian was featured in the highly anticipated Marie Christine Lincoln Center. She also portrayed Lena Horne in a new piece, More than a Song, with the Pittsburgh Ballet Company at the Benedum Theater in Pittsburgh. Vivian contributed her talents to the Lena Horne Awards Show hosted by Bill Cosby honoring Rosie ODonnell and Quincy Jones at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts in New York. Recently she appeared in Three Mo Divas, the follow-up to Three Mo Tenors at the San Diego Rep and Arena Stage in Washington, DC. Presently Vivian is putting together her own show which should be ready in a few months.

A Very Fun And Uplifting Ceremony On A Sunny Friday Evening at Bothell's Monte Villa Farmhouse... The "Funsy" Alan & Christina Garvin
Monte Villa Farmhouse '09

Okay, sometimes in this work, you've just gotta smile BIG. And smile I did on Alan and Christina's wedding day. Alan and Christina were married on a Friday evening at the Monte Villa Farmhouse - an idyllic evening in all ways.

What I truly appreciate about this couple is their generous and appreciative natures and how we worked to create a very fun and uplifting wedding ceremony - one that set the tone for the evening's celebration.

Alan and Christina - I wish you much, much happiness. I left your wedding with such a happy feeling in my heart... isn't the Monte Villa Farmhouse the most lovely venue in such a crazy "corporate" park?!

An "Aloha" Wedding At The Willows Lodge - Congratulations to George & Kris!

George and Kris ~ The Willows Lodge ~ A Winter Wedding

The Spirit of Aloha! There was so much "Aloha" at George and Kris's Winter wedding at The Willows Lodge. So much love.

For their ceremony, George and Kris included a wide variety of personalized elements and pieces to include family and friends in the moment. Thinking back, there was so much and what stood out was the exchange of leis, warm words to family and parents, a "surprise" to open on a special wedding anniversary, a song by the Bride's Mother with a chorus of cousins and much more.

George and Kris - I wish you every happiness! And thank you to Alyssa of Alyssa Rose Photography for this gorgeous photo! www.alyssarosephotography.com

Tony and Shannon Ihlen: A Rainy ~ Sunny ~ Windy ~ Rainbow Filled Wedding Day At Alderbrook Resort, Union, WA... Tony and Shannon Ihlen
April 17, 2010 ~ Alderbrook Resort

Mother Nature was in full force during Tony and Shannon's wedding day. When I arrived at Alderbrook Resort for Tony and Shannon's 4:00 p.m. wedding ceremony, it was raining.

And within the next two hours, we had more rain, no rain, a little wind, sunshine - big sunshine! - and a rainbow. And then, a downpour!

50+ family and friends gathered for Tony and Shannon's waterside wedding at Alderbrook Resort this past Saturday and the weather just became a part of this couple's story. This was such a fun ceremony - Tony and Shannon share a great sense of humor and Tony's friend, Photographer Mike Tallman, had his running shoes on to capture the marvelous fun during the couple's vows and more.

And just after the ceremony completed, a rainbow - peaking through the clouds. The funny thing is that on this exact Saturday a year ago, I married Matt and Katie in the exact same location at Alderbrook and right after their ceremony, a rainbow!

Mike and Tiffany - thank you for the beautiful images from this ceremony - you captured this couple so beautifully! And Julie Noice - your staff at Alderbrook Resort is the very best!

"I Stand Alone" Was the first Godsmack song I'd ever heard in my life. Needless to say, after this one, I was hooked. Aside from the band itself just kicking so much ass on a daily basis, I always admired their odd sort of creativity. On the whole, Sully, Robbie, Tony, Shannon (and Tommy for that matter) display an amazing kinship. Something all bands need to have in my honest opinion.

I thought it only fair to cover one of my faves by them. Granted, I can't lay a finger on what Shannon Larkin in capable of, but I figured I'd put my own twist on his artwork.

Thanks for tuning in.

More Popular Than Ever - Planning Your Holiday Weekend Wedding...

More Popular Than Ever - Planning Your Holiday Weekend Wedding... Sam and Melanie, 2008
Robinswood House, Bellevue, Washington
Holiday Weekends are very popular for weddings. Really! This coming Thanksgiving holiday weekend, I have four wonderful weddings as couples often use the "buffer days" of a holiday weekend for extra time with out-of-town family and friends.
*********
If you're considering a wedding on a holiday weekend:
- send out "save the date cards" earlier than usual for planning purposes.
- book your hotel rooms for out-of-town guests early, particularly during the popular Summer months.
- consider a post-wedding Brunch or BBQ as a way to "tie a bow" on the wedding weekend.
- beware of special events "around town" and plan accordingly, i.e., timing of ceremony, etc.

There's no exact science to achieving high-school popularity. But you definitely don't have to throw half your class under the bus to get there.

To complete this How-To you will need:

Desire to be popular
Good attitude
Confidence
Gimmick
Sense of humor

Step 1: Be likable

Popularity boils down to being liked by your peers. Be friendly, positive, and respectful to everyone. Don't act like you're too good for anybody -- it's hard not to like a person who's fun and easy to be around.

Step 2: Be confident and visible

Confidence and visibility go hand in hand with popularity. Stand out, speak up, and burst out of your shell. Talk with or at least say hello to everyone within earshot and introduce yourself to anyone who doesn't already know you exist.

Step 3: Have diverse friends

Build a broad network of friends. Befriend people from all walks of high-school life by joining extracurricular activities.

Tip: Once every few days, during lunch, bounce around from table to table. You'll appear busy and important, and people will appreciate that you stopped by to chat.

Step 4: Get a gimmick

To be popular, you gotta get noticed -- and nothing will garner attention like a well-crafted gimmick. Wear a funky hat, carry around a harmonica -- anything that will attract interest.

Step 5: Have a sense of humor

Be funny! People always respond to humor. And don't be afraid to laugh at yourself now and then.

Step 6: Don't sell out

Never pick on unpopular kids or ditch old buddies. If you do manage to attain popularity, remember where you came from. Don't exclude people -- you never know when the high school social ladder will flip-flop and knock you down a few pegs.

The Marvelous Mayflower Park Hotel and James and Elaine's Wedding Ceremony...James and Elaine Booth
April 25, 2009, Alexis Hotel

James and Elaine were married at the marvelous Mayflower Park hotel in late April in downtown Seattle. Married in the upper level foyer of the hotel's lobby near the fireplace, James and Elaine's wedding ceremony was a mix of the traditional, the contemporary and with a bit of fun. And let's not forget the "fire truck" and the photos on the truck truck immediately following their ceremony (James is one of those handsome firemen!).
If you looking for a unique and history filled venue for your ceremony and celebration, consider the Mayflower Park Hotel. The staff is amazing and don't get me started on the food!

Title: COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE, COLLECTIVE STUPIDITY, AND THE REAR VIEW MIRROR

Back in the 60s, shortly before the Mayflower, I was involved in Intelligence Research and found that the individual IQ could be elevated from an average of 102 to 140 give or take within 90 days. The method I applied was the managed exposure to challenging information. Following Google and YouTube I repeatedly pointed to the significant increase of available data that improves the playground for the human Intelligence by its mere presence.
--- Dr. Thomas Malone of MITs Center for Collective Intelligence defined the concept of collective intelligence as doing things collectively that seem intelligent. I would add to that the collective ability to solve problems. Of course there are caveats. Dr. Malone points to the fact that collective intelligence is just as real as collective stupidity. --- Interesting concept. Lets take the rear view mirror and look at the last eight years. The caveat I mentioned is that leaders with a certain degree of intellectual inflexibility use fear to keep the collective from demanding action, or for that matter even questioning the ability to lead. By the way, that does not only apply to leaders, it applies as well to Senators, as you experienced. --- The human brain itself is the most marvelous thing imaginable to the analyst. Now take the collective brain. And then go one step further and imagine that the AVERAGE IQ is raised to 140 not at all impossible as I showed in the 60s. But then it would take a leader who concentrates on the advancement of mankind. Think about it. Just think about the potential to solve the collective problems we face!

Rahn and Dawn's Seattle Wedding Extravaganza at Golden Gardens Park! Rahn and Dawn Stolworthy
July 19, 2009 ~ Golden Gardens Park

Well, if there ever was a very fun and memorable ceremony, I put Rahn and Dawn's marvelous wedding at Golden Gardens Park at the top of my short list! And this remarkable couple took everything in stride with grace and humor - you've gotta love that!

******

So, let's see...what were some of the elements and unexpected surprises to the Stolworthy's ceremony?

- lots of wind which made things very blustery and fun
- a train in the middle of the ceremony (toot! toot!)
- a microphone that wouldn't behave properly and finally did
- gorgeous wedding vows
- fabulous family and friends who took everything in stride
- no parking. Na da. Guests walked in from all over - it was a packed day for people at the park. And no complaints were heard.

The most wonderful Cheryl Jones from www.inaframe.com took this beautiful photo of Rahn and Dawn and captured yesterday's festivities.

Rahn and Dawn - I suggest a picnic at Golden Gardens every year on your anniversary and wish you much happiness together....

Title: The Demon Daughter - Hakuna Matata Style

Here's the latest Rhiolly parody for ya'll to hate on. :)

This is kind of based on the harsh opinions expressed in the video, "Hitler was not dazzled by Breaking Dawn." Once again, we do feel this way, but we still love Twilight no matter what we say. I'll have to admit it to myself one day/

This idea was born whilst we were waiting in the KFC drive-thru. In between pondering what exactly were the Colonel's 11 secret herbs and spices, the dulcet tones of Timon and Pumbaa began yodeling out of my crappy stereo system thingie. And the song-plotting ensued. I think one of our early stage lyrics was:

"When he was a young vampire...
WHEN I WAS A YOUNG VAMPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRE!
You were really fat.
So's your mum."

Thankfully, we progressed a little further than Twum Jokes.
