Get The Officiant "Outta There!" - Keeping The Focus On The Couple and NOT the Officiant!

Get The Officiant "Outta There!" - Keeping The Focus On The Couple and NOT the Officiant! Graham and Chrystal Comley
Snoqualmie Golf & Country Club, 2009

Okay, here is one of my pet peeves. A couple ties a bow around their wedding ceremony with a beautiful pronouncement and memorable kiss and the Officiant is crowding their special photo!

In this work that I do, I move around - sometimes a little, sometimes a lot - during a ceremony to keep the focus on the couple and their family and friends.

And one of the places you'll never see me is smack in the middle of a kiss. I love a pronouncement where the focus is fully on the couple, like the amazing photo of Graham and Chrystal above, without the Officiant in the photo.

I love being in wedding photos - just some more than others!

The wonderful photo above was taken by Paul Isop of www.studio6now.com

Okay, What's With the "Traditional Guest Book?"

por | | 0 comments

Okay, What's With the "Traditional Guest Book?"Congratulations to Al and Laurene Stappenbeck!
June 7, 2008, Cedarbrook Center
photo courtesy of Brian & Jennifer Hartman www.photoelan.com

Truth? I've been to many weddings.
And if I may be bold on this sunny Monday morning as I think about what works and what doesn't work at a wedding, I offer this thought: what is with the guest book?
All couples know who is attending their wedding so having guests sign their names seems to me to be a bit redundant. Not only does this often create an unwelcoming "long line" as guests arrive at your wedding, it doesn't offer a very elegant initial experience.
If you're thinking about a guest book, consider "nixing it" and going with something that may be ultimately more meaningful to you:
- a framed photo mat for personal written messages.
- a wishing tree for special notes to be opened on your first anniversary.
- a special welcoming drink with a fortune attached.
A guest book is a traditional piece to a wedding - think about what you truly want your guests to experience when they arrive at your ceremony and take it from there!

Title: #5 Sept 7 2008 Title of Respect

Curt Crist, www.welcometograce.com

When our Lord was here on the earth, his disciples never ever addressed him without some title of honor. You could go through the gospel records and study every time when they spoke in his presence whether they were speaking to him or about him...whenever they were in his presence with only one exception those who truly followed the Lord on earth always used a title of respect.
That should tell us something at least about respect. These folks recognized who he was in relation to their program. And they respected his position when speaking about him or to him.

Now it's also true in the narrative of the gospels and even in other places, you have the name Jesus sitting there all by it self. That's by design. The Holy Spirit knew what he was doing when he inspired the writing of scripture.

Whenever the context is the Lord's humiliation, his suffering, his earthly name Jesus appears by itself. No title of recognition of position appears with his earthly name.

When you come to the book of acts, an interesting pattern begins to develop. Whenever an unbeliever addressed the Lord or refers to him, they always use just his earthly name, the name Jesus. Those who acknowledge his position make reference to that position.

Examples of those who did not believe in his exalted position during the earthly kingdom program. Those who did not love the Lord. Those who were not his true disciples.

Acts 4:5 And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes,
Acts 4:6 And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.

Acts 4:18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

Acts 17:5 But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.
Acts 17:6 And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;
Acts 17:7 Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.

This group left off Jesus's rightful title as Messiah. So again it's the unbelievers who are using simply the earthly name of our Lord.

You see talking about Jesus never got anyone in trouble in that day. It was attaching a title to that name Jesus that got people in trouble.

Acts 17:3 .......... this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

Paul was simply pointing out that this earthly Jesus was indeed their Messiah. He was the anointed King of Israel. You see it was the position of honor that caused the problems in God's earthly program.
It's that position of honor given his name that has always bothered the principalities and powers who oppose the authority, the exalted position given Jesus Christ.
Not only Israel's Messiah her promised King, but our Lord and Saviour. The opposition in heavenly places abhors the idea of Christ headship of that exalted position he holds.

An unsaved believer?!?! Demons. They knew who he is but tremble at the thought.

Acts 19:13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
Acts 19:14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.

First you have the exorcist using the name Jesus.

Acts 19:15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

The opposition government in the heavenly realm detest the preeminence given our Lord whether the preeminence on earth as Israel's King or the preeminence given the risen Jesus in heavenly places, the exalted Jesus as Lord and saviour and the head of the body of Christ.

Acts 25:18 Against whom when the accusers stood up, they brought none accusation of such things as I supposed:
Acts 25:19 But had certain questions against him of their own superstition, and of one Jesus, which was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.

Never do you see an unbeliever even in God's earthly kingdom program attribute a title of authority that gives credence to Christ's exalted position as Head of the Universe.

The First Weekend Of March ~ A Big Wedding Weekend in Seattle!

The First Weekend Of March ~ A Big Wedding Weekend in Seattle!March 6 & 7, 2010 ~ Ah, Love!

Wasn't the weather absolutely glorious this past week, especially on Saturday?

Bryce and Irene took me up on my "advice" and were married mid-week under a huge zillion year old tree in a "secret park" here in Seattle. Bryce's parents flew up from Florida for the event and the "friend paparazzi" were on hand to capture the event.

Congratulations to Robyn and Kenny married under great sunshine at the Shilshole Bay Beach Club and to Chris and Kriste' married at the Edgewater Hotel. It was a marvelous time at SODO Park on Saturday afternoon for Joe and Christine's wedding ceremony - tears, giggles, cheers - what a time!

I was deeply touched to join Colleen and Matt for their intimate ceremony with family and friends at a private home late Saturday evening. The story surrounding this couple's wedding pulls on the heart strings - Colleen and Matt, I wish you much peace and comfort in the days ahead and a very happy married life together.

And finally, on Sunday afternoon, I was at Kiana Lodge (near my home!) for Jackie and Jennifer's wedding extravaganza. Pam and Nancy at Kiana Lodge always do such a fantastic job for their couples and they went above and beyond to insure that this wedding day was sweet and magical in all ways.

Season 1, Ep 16: Dharma and Greg's First Romantic Valentine's Day Weekend - A romantic Valentine's Day weekend turns out to be anything but for Dharma and Greg. It all begins when Greg downloads a travel brochure promising a cozy getaway at the Red Rose Inn in upstate snow country. Unfortunately, things don't go quite as planned. En route, they get ticketed for speeding when Greg tries to make up time lost burying a dead animal that Dharma spotted by the roadside. Worse still, when they arrive at the inn they discover it's just an ordinary little house with no snow and only a backyard trailer to accommodate guests. Meanwhile, Kitty misinterprets Larry's talk about an animal-shelter swap meet to mean wife swapping, and she and Edward find themselves strangely disturbed by the idea. Aired: 2/11/1998.

3 Things You Might Not Know About Me, Your Wedding Officiant...

3 Things You Might Not Know About Me, Your Wedding Officiant... Congratulations to Brian & Suzanne!
Kiana Lodge, Poulsbo, WA

In this work that I do, I have laughed, cried, worried, obsessed and had some of the most marvelous moments of my life. Creating and delivering a personalized wedding ceremony - no matter how many people, no matter the location or how simple or complex a ceremony - is a delicate art. It involves the creative process, grand and complex emotion, a couple's unique story and a couple's "tribe/family."
**********
And so, over the years, here is what is true about me that you may not know:
1) On occasion (once or twice a year), I mess things up within a ceremony. I fall back on the "nobody's perfect" medicine to help me feel better and a mistake still hurts.
2) I often worry about traffic snafus in the Summer season and arrive on-site often way too early. Truth? I wish I could relax around traffic. Probably not happening in this lifetime. So, I drink alot of tea or diet Snapple (peach tea!) while waiting...
3) And several times during the year because I work heavy weekends, I miss wonderful weekend events with family and friends. I'll confide to my husband, "this working weekend thing is really hard sometimes," and feel melancholy that I'm missing some personal fun. Yes, it's true. I love to play AND I wouldn't give up this work right now for anything.

Title: Big Blue Dress Widescreen

The MP3 for this song is on my newly-released album, "Big Blue Dress":

http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=327607823&s=143441
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002LP17JK/ref=dm_sp_alb?ie=UTF8&qid=1250403575&sr=8-2

This is a re-edit of my original music video "Big Blue Dress". Many people have been asking for me to upload a better version to YouTube now that it supports higher resolutions and wide screen. Also since I've started using YouTube to post my videos, some people wanted them all in one place. In converting this old video to wide screen, I actually had to edit it from scratch because just trimming the original didn't work as you might expect. As a result, there are some minor differences between this video and the original. Since I was doing it from scratch, I did change a few things that you might notice. However, I tried to keep these changes very small.

For you machinimators out there, I strongly recommend that you archive your footage and your project files because you never know when you might want to do something like this.

I wrote this song and shot all the footage in 2005. Not only was this before the Burning Crusade expansion pack, but also it was before the first "mage love" patch which made the mage more powerful. So please don't focus on the numbers you'll see in this video. The video was never about the critical hits. If I could have removed that text, I would have. In some cases I was able to because I was using a "camera man", but in other cases it was live footage with the UI turned off (try it some time), but I couldn't turn off the damage numbers. That said, these crits were about as good as it got in early 2005. I could have gone bigger with trinkets and arcane power, but this was considered bad form in videos at the time.

I'll include a FAQ about this video here. I'll try to answer some of the questions that have been asked over the years, and I'll try to add good questions as they crop up. If you have more questions, check my blog (www.cranius.com) or send me some mail (cranius@cranius.com).

Where can I get the MP3? Can I find this on iTunes?
Download it from http://www.cranius.com/audio/BigBlueDress.mp3

How do you fly?
That's not flying. That's falling with style. :) In this video, most of the flying is performed by casting Slow Fall, a mage spell that causes you to ... fall slowly. Then I mount up on my epic mount and run and jump off a cliff. You can jump from the Lumbermill to the Blacksmith in Arathi Basin, for example.

How do you cast a giant fireball while moving/flying?
The mage talent "Presence of Mind" (aka "POM") causes your next cast to be instant. So I cast this spell and then cast Pyroblast. Since it's instant, you can cast it while moving/flying.

What's that white horse? Where do you get it?
The white stallion was the original human epic mount. It's no longer available in game. Only those who kept their original epic mount still have one.

What are you wearing in this video?
Cowboy hat - Master's Hat
Pink - Magister's set (so-called tier 0.5)
Blue - Original PvP set
Brown - Twill "set" (it sucks, but it looks cool) :)

Who's the Author? Who made the music video?
I wrote the song, I go by "Cranius", and I made the original music video as well as this new version here. I didn't upload the original version to YouTube, though some other people did.

What are the lyrics? What are the gnomes saying?

Title: Paul Simon - Slip Slidin' Away + lyrics

Paul Simon - Slip Slidin' Away

Lyrics:

Slip slidin' away
Slip slidin' away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you're slip slidin' away

I know a man
He came from my home town
He wore his passion for his woman
Like a thorny crown
He said Dolores
I live in fear
My love for you's so overpowering
I'm afraid that I will disappear

Slip slidin' away
Slip slidin' away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you're slip slidin' away

I know a woman
Became a wife
These are the very words she uses
To describe her life
She said a good day
Ain't got no rain
She said a bad day's when I lie in bed
And think of things that might have been

Slip slidin' away
Slip slidin' away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you're slip slidin' away

And I know a fa-ther
Who had a son
He longed to tell him all the reasons
For the things he'd done
He came a long way
Just to explain
He kissed his boy as he lay sleeping
Then he turned around and headed home again

Slip slidin' away
Slip slidin' away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you're slip slidin' away

God only knows
God makes his plan
The information's unavailable
To the mortal man
We're working our jobs
Collect our pay
Believe we're gliding down the highway
When in fact we're slip slidin' away

Slip slidin' away
Slip slidin' away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you're slip slidin' away

Slip slidin' away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you're slip slidin' away
Mmm...

Tricks From An Officiant's Goodie Bag ~ Three Best Suggestions For An Elegant Wedding Ceremony...

por | | 0 comments

Tricks From An Officiant's Goodie Bag ~ Three Best Suggestions For An Elegant Wedding Ceremony... In this work that I do, every couple I work with has a different vision for their wedding day.

So, indulge me while I take a minute or so so share a few of my hard-learned tips to creating a more elegant wedding ceremony:

1) Give Your Guests A Job ~ Before your ceremony begins or before pronouncement, have your Officiant/Minister tell your family and friends what is "going to happen next." This way, guests know what to do immediately after a ceremony and this creates a more elegant transition from ceremony to party/reception.

2) My Half-Hour Suggestion ~ If your wedding ceremony is starting at 6:00 p.m., put 5:30 p.m. on the invites. This "fudge time" allows for a little extra time for a bride/groom and wedding party and also creates a more easy and elegant welcoming for family and friends.

3) Put your Intention On Creating An Imperfect Wedding Day ~ Perfect Wedding days are "perfect' because they are imperfect. This is the paradox of a wedding day. Focus on the key ingredients of a beautiful wedding day: love, appreciation, gratitude, anticipation and peace. I love and treasure the imperfect moments of a wedding ceremony as they are spontaneous, often fun and joyful and handled with ease and care, they creates lifetime moments.

Title: Megadeth Promises Lyrics

Lyrics here:

Two hearts that shouldn't
Talk to each other become close
In a town much like a prison cell

People speak our names
On the street in hushed tones
Oh the stories they'd tell
If anyone would listen

You come from a town where
People don't bother saying hello
Unless somebody's born or dies

And I come from a place where they
Drag your hopes through the mud
Because their own dreams are all dying

And when we walk down the street
The wind sings our name in rebel songs
The sounds of the night should make us anxious
But it's much too late when the fear is gone

I will meet you in the Next Life, I promise you
Where we can be together, I promise you
I will wait till then in Heaven, I promise you
I promise, I promise

There's so many fighting
To get past the Pearly Gates
But nobody ever wants to die or get saved

Their intentions aren't that good
And I can smell the asphalt
That's their personal road to hell being paved

And when we walk down the street
The wind sings our names in rebel songs
And it's much too late when the fear is gone

I will meet you in the Next Life, I promise you
Where we can be together, I promise you
I will wait till then in Heaven, I promise you
I promise, I promise

Title: The Dirty Heads - Lay Me Down lyrics

Lyrics to Lay Me Down:

Ho ohh woah ho ho no ohhh
hoo ooh oh
oh oooh ooh

well this is how it starts two lovers in the dark
on the run from the one that they call Sheriff Sparks
six guns by the side and bullets 'round their waist
two shots to the sky signal sign for the chase.
the safe is nearly empty and they were nearly free
but were seen by the good eye of the mean Billy Queen
and he screamed at the top of his lungs "they're on the run"
It's the two outsiders grab your horses and your guns

i said i wish that we could stay here
but i fear our time is come
we could ride out in the darkness
chasing the rising sun
we gotta pack our bags this instant
we're headin' southbound til the next town
and if we arrive there so safely
baby you could lay me down
lay me downnn
lay me dowahownnn
lay me downnnnnn

well its the story of the two, always on the move
they got nothing left to lose 'cept their guns and their wounds
now they're crossing borders sheriff's posse on their tail
they'd rather die together than be stuck up in a cell
they drank up all the whiskey and they partied every night
like it could be the last, the bounty said to 'shoot on sight'
they're chasing in the summer, knew it came with a price
They wouldn't stop running til they found the paradise
but the sheriff finally found them with his eyes seeing red
so the lovers had to shoot him down and fill him full of lead
they were finally free to find a place to lay their head
and when he finally did he looked at her and he said

i said i think that we can stay here
cuz i feel our time has come
and we can walk down to the ocean
and sit with the rising sun
so unpack your bags this instant
no more running from town to town
and now that we've arrived so safely
baby you can lay me down

lay me downnn
lay me dowahownnn
lay me downnnnnnnnnn

well you're my green eyed girl and i been running around with you
its the afternoon and we got nothing left to do
so wipe the dirt off, take your shirt off
and we should go hit the cantina; we got work off

i said its hot outside let me go swimming in your eyes
we been running for awhile why don't you lay down i'll make you smile
i could never ask for nothing better than this
it's just tequila and the beach, it's quite salty when we kiss

i said i think that we can stay here
cuz i feel our time has come
and we can walk down to the ocean
and sit with the rising sun
so unpack your bags this instant
no more running from town to town
and now that we've arrived so safely
baby you can lay me down

lay me downnn
lay me downhownnn noooo ohhh
lay me downnnnnnnnnn

More Popular Than Ever - Planning Your Holiday Weekend Wedding...

More Popular Than Ever - Planning Your Holiday Weekend Wedding... Sam and Melanie, 2008
Robinswood House, Bellevue, Washington
Holiday Weekends are very popular for weddings. Really! This coming Thanksgiving holiday weekend, I have four wonderful weddings as couples often use the "buffer days" of a holiday weekend for extra time with out-of-town family and friends.
*********
If you're considering a wedding on a holiday weekend:
- send out "save the date cards" earlier than usual for planning purposes.
- book your hotel rooms for out-of-town guests early, particularly during the popular Summer months.
- consider a post-wedding Brunch or BBQ as a way to "tie a bow" on the wedding weekend.
- beware of special events "around town" and plan accordingly, i.e., timing of ceremony, etc.

There's no exact science to achieving high-school popularity. But you definitely don't have to throw half your class under the bus to get there.

To complete this How-To you will need:

Desire to be popular
Good attitude
Confidence
Gimmick
Sense of humor

Step 1: Be likable

Popularity boils down to being liked by your peers. Be friendly, positive, and respectful to everyone. Don't act like you're too good for anybody -- it's hard not to like a person who's fun and easy to be around.

Step 2: Be confident and visible

Confidence and visibility go hand in hand with popularity. Stand out, speak up, and burst out of your shell. Talk with or at least say hello to everyone within earshot and introduce yourself to anyone who doesn't already know you exist.

Step 3: Have diverse friends

Build a broad network of friends. Befriend people from all walks of high-school life by joining extracurricular activities.

Tip: Once every few days, during lunch, bounce around from table to table. You'll appear busy and important, and people will appreciate that you stopped by to chat.

Step 4: Get a gimmick

To be popular, you gotta get noticed -- and nothing will garner attention like a well-crafted gimmick. Wear a funky hat, carry around a harmonica -- anything that will attract interest.

Step 5: Have a sense of humor

Be funny! People always respond to humor. And don't be afraid to laugh at yourself now and then.

Step 6: Don't sell out

Never pick on unpopular kids or ditch old buddies. If you do manage to attain popularity, remember where you came from. Don't exclude people -- you never know when the high school social ladder will flip-flop and knock you down a few pegs.
