PJ drove 12 hours in treacherous Mid-west Winter weather to ask Maegan's parents for her hand in marriage. What I loved about PJ and Maegan is how they sweetly tied together the traditional and the contemporary to create a beautiful wedding ceremony and celebration at one of my favorite places on earth, Kiana Lodge.

As you can see from the photo taken by the wonderful Kurt Smith (www.kurtsmithphotography.com) moments after they began walking down the aisle, PJ and Maegan were elated to begin the new phase of their journey together as partners, buddies and loving husband and wife.

Day 94-100 Jurien Bay
"Day 94-100 Jurien Bay Wed March 4th - Tues March 10th 2009 Our late arrival into Jurien Bay Tourist Park on Wednesday evening saw us nearly miss the night's entertainment of "Buzzer the Bush Balladeer" - a Country & Western star (or so he claimed) from the 20's, I reckoned! We were pleasantly surprised to find Riley, Darcy, Simone & Luke (from Luckybay) in the audience and realised our site was right beside them - we were to be our neighbours again! Max was stoked, he and the boys made lots of noise re-acquainting themselves and generally disrupted Buzzer's performance, but despite all this he soldiered on like the true professional he is. Maegan got up and sang "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" at the end of Buzzers set. She was so impressed with him(and we with her act of bravado) that when he put his hat out to collect gold coin donations and urged his guests to peruse his merchandise (which included his CD's of past memorable performances) Maegan bought a stubbie holder to remember the occasion! The water here is clear, clean and pristine. We were lucky to have hot weather whilst here and that meant little wind so the swimming area was mostly flat waters and hence the clear waters. We felt we had arrived in paradise, when you find these gems it is difficult to move on for fear you will not find somewhere as good. One morning we drove to Cervantes to the Nambung National Park to see the pinnacles, we were all amazed to find desert conditions seeming appear out of no-where. Rather than walk the 1.2km loop on this very hot day we drove, stopping many times enthralled with the display of these unusual limestone pillars. Some were 5m tall and others were 2m wide at the base, Maegan and Max thought they were awesome, we all thought they were awesome. I took heaps of photos trying to capture them in all their glory, in different lights and with the blue sea in the background. The interpretive centre with a themed "signs of life" display of animals found in this environment was fantastic also, we all learned heaps here. We spent heaps of time with Luke, Simone, Riley and Darcy at the beach swimming, snorkelling and jumping off the jetty and at the local pub on Friday night. The kids played on the jumping pillow in between Riley and Darcy's distance education lessons. Greg woke on Saturday morning with a major hang-over, he and Luke stayed long after I had taken the remaining kids home. Darcy came down with a temperature, feeling lethargic and generally unwell, so Simone took him home first. He ended up not well for 24hrs, just the usual tummy bug stuff. Greg was so crook next morning he couldn't go to his usual Super Saturday racing at the pub tab. Naturally I had little sympathy for his self inflicted condition, Luke bounced back quickly and Greg took all day to come good. Fishing off the jetty was a favourite pass-time of Maegan's once she met Jasmine and her family later in the week. She caught a flathead there at dusk and Greg was also caught several whiting. None were big enough to eat, not that he would have eaten them anyway. They both enjoyed watching the sunsets from on those nights Sandy Cape approximately 9km north of Jurien and a potential cheap campsite provided another half day's activity. We drove there to determine if we would stay on the way out of Jurien, however the seaweed was a little on the nose and given the $15p.n site fees we were not bowled over enough by this site to cut short our time in Jurien Bay. We did follow a dolphin that was feeding in the reef, really close to the beach. It was playing and diving like a whale, flapping its tail on the water as it surfaced. I wondered if it did this because it was feeding, thrashing about trying to eat the fish it chased... Anyway I dragged the family about 2km along the bay mesmerised by this animal in its natural environment and attempting to capture it on camera. Reluctantly we left Jurien on Tuesday morning but not before one last swim and dive off the jetty in the magnificent calm, clear waters before breakfast that day, our 100th day on the trip. What a way to start the celebrations..."

Daily Facial At Home!

Jergens Natural Glow Healthy Complexion Daily Facial Moisturizer is reviewed in this video. I found that this gradual self-tanner builds a very natural looking tan. The lotion itself is oil-free and white in color. It goes on very smooth and does a good job moisturizing; it also has SPF 20 so I don't need to apply additional products after using this one. I did find that by midday my skin was a little greasier than it would normally have been, but I remedy this by blotting with TP. I had the honor of officiating Barry and April Wressel's ceremony and their son, Vaughn, did a stellar job as the official ring bearer!

Giving children a "job" within a wedding ceremony creates such wonderful memories. And depending on the age of the child, this often creates a childhood memory for life.

If you have a child or children, work with your Officiant to include them not only in the processional/recessional but within the ceremony. I often contemporize the traditional unity candle ritual so that it is personalized and memorable for the specific couple or children. And there are other sweet and wonderful rituals to consider depending on what you want for your ceremony.

The number of well-publicized public shootings during the past few years, especially the tragedy at Columbine High School, has re-energized the gun control movement. As a show of strength, a coalition of gun control groups has organized a "Million Mom March" to be held in Washington, D.C. on Mother's Day, an event designed to stir up emotions rather than promote rational thought. And when one looks at the facts about gun control, it's easy to see why the anti-gun lobby relies on emotion rather than logic to make its case.

Think you know the facts about gun control? If your only source of information is the mainstream media, what you think you know may not be correct. Take the quiz below and test your knowledge.

1. Thousands of children die annually in gun accidents.

False. Gun accidents involving children are actually at record lows, although you wouldn't know it from listening to the mainstream media. In 1997, the last year for which data are available, only 142 children under 15 years of age died in gun accidents, and the total number of gun-related deaths for this age group was 642. More children die each year in accidents involving bikes, space heaters or drownings. The often repeated claim that 12 children per day die from gun violence includes "children" up to 20 years of age, the great majority of whom are young adult males who die in gang-related violence.

2. Gun shows are responsible for a large number of firearms falling into the hands of criminals.

False. Contrary to President Clinton's claims, there is no "gun show loophole." All commercial arms dealers at gun shows must run background checks, and the only people exempt from them are the small number of non-commercial sellers. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, at most 2 percent of guns used by criminals are purchased at gun shows, and most of those were purchased legally by people who passed background checks.

3. The tragedy at Columbine High School a year ago illustrates the deficiencies of current gun control laws.

False. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold violated close to 20 firearms laws in amassing their cache of weapons (not to mention the law against murder), so it seems rather dubious to argue that additional laws might have prevented this tragedy. The two shotguns and rifle used by Harris and Klebold were purchased by a girlfriend who would have passed a background check, and the TEC-9 handgun used by them was already illegal.

4. States that allow registered citizens to carry concealed weapons have lower crime rates than those that don't.

True. The 31 states that have "shall issue" laws allowing private citizens to carry concealed weapons have, on average, a 24 percent lower violent crime rate, a 19 percent lower murder rate and a 39 percent lower robbery rate than states that forbid concealed weapons. In fact, the nine states with the lowest violent crime rates are all right-to-carry states. Remarkably, guns are used for self-defense more than 2 million times a year, three to five times the estimated number of violent crimes committed with guns.

5. Waiting periods lower crime rates.

False. Numerous studies have been conducted on the effects of waiting periods, both before and after the federal Brady bill was passed in 1993. Those studies consistently show that there is no correlation between waiting periods and murder or robbery rates. Florida State University professor Gary Kleck analyzed data from every U.S. city with a population over 100,000 and found that waiting periods had no statistically significant effect. Even University of Maryland anti-gun researcher David McDowell found that "waiting periods have no influence on either gun homicides or gun suicides."

6. Lower murder rates in foreign countries prove that gun control works.

False. This is one of the favorite arguments of gun control proponents, and yet the facts show that there is simply no correlation between gun control laws and murder or suicide rates across a wide spectrum of nations and cultures. In Israel and Switzerland, for example, a license to possess guns is available on demand to every law-abiding adult, and guns are easily obtainable in both nations. Both countries also allow widespread carrying of concealed firearms, and yet, admits Dr. Arthur Kellerman, one of the foremost medical advocates of gun control, Switzerland and Israel "have rates of homicide that are low despite rates of home firearm ownership that are at least as high as those in the United States." A comparison of crime rates within Europe reveals no correlation between access to guns and crime.

The basic premise of the gun control movement, that easy access to guns causes higher crime, is contradicted by the facts, by history and by reason. Let's hope more people are catching on.

Zelda, "The Wedding Dog..."

I love Zelda. A big part of my life is working to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home death row dogs. And on days when rescue work seems overwhelming, I look at my Zelda calendar and take a deep breath and smile.

So, on this day, November 19th, I am thankful for Zelda.

I am thankful for a wonderful 2009 of amazing couples and beautiful wedding memories. I am thankful for my wonderful husband, Greg, and all he brings to my life. I adore our five special needs dogs and the courage they show us each day.

It's now time for a little rest and play. I'm excited about my holiday weddings and I am loving the engaged couples I am meeting with for next year - there is so much love all the way around!
