Ryan and Christina were married on April 18th at the marvelous and historic St. Paul's Church in Port Gamble. From California, I worked with Ryan and Christina via email and phone on their wedding ceremony and finally had the pleasure of meeting them at rehearsal.
Ryan and Christina's wedding was a perfect mix of the sacred, the contemporary and a little fun, too. Ryan and Christina had quite the enthusiastic wedding party that made the ceremony that much more memorable!
I feel sorry for attractive women. They get asked out so many times, but all their dates are the same: dinner, drinks, cinema. It must get old pretty quickly.
But this is an opportunity for some clever and creative guys out there, because if they can do some different stuff, it will be very attractive. It will also usually cost less! Where does a creative guy take a girl on a first date? Here's my best first date ideas:
1. Activity-based dates
An activity based date is where you meet and do something pretty exciting. It is great fun for her, but afterwards you should also go for a drink or sit down somewhere so that you can connect with her. She'll be much more open to it after a fun date. What are some examples of a good activity-based date?
-The fair.
-The games arcade. No not to play Tekken. Do physical games like the dancing games, racing games, and if she is a bit tough, the punching games.
-Play a sport or game of table tennis, table football, darts, pool, badminton, or even trampolining.
-Go to a class together: Dancing (Salsa is good), pranayama, massage. If it is something you wanted to try already, even better.
-Fly a kite.
2. Nature-based date
Girls love animals and nature. Design a nature based date and it should be a memorable experience. Examples would be:
-Feeding the ducks and squirrels in the park. -A boat trip up the river. -The zoo (make sure she doesn't morally object). -The aquarium..
3. Interest-based date
If she has expressed an interest in a certain area like art, history, or foreign films, take her on a date that matches this interest.
4. Tourist Stuff
It's amazing how many City-dwellers haven't done the famous tourist stuff in their city. Casually find out if she has been to Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, or whatever your local attraction is. Chances are neither of you have so it will make a great first date.
5. Buy a Local Events Guide
There are all kinds of cool events going on in big cities all the time. Things like food festivals, charity concerts, and street parties. Find one that sounds cool and go together.
By having an activity or something else as the focus of the date, it takes a lot of pressure off the interaction. By the time you sit down to talk, you will have a fun shared experience and she will already be more open to you. If you have taken a girl on a date like this, chances are she'll be telling all her friends about the great time she had, and she'll definitely be sold on seeing you again.

Tonight, I got an unexpected email from a favorite couple of mine: they are cancelling their July wedding ceremony and celebration. And my heart is with this couple as they both make their way through this week of "cancelling this" and "cancelling that."
And here is what I hold as true: nobody knows what truly goes on within a loving relationship except the two people involved. To cancel is to step up and take a courageous stand - it's a powerful choice that, while exceedingly difficult and heart-breaking, is a visible and invisible act of courage.
Which would be more intimidating to you, taking someone out on a first date or giving a speech in a public environment? Ok. Obviously the answer is giving a public speech but you would be very surprised to learn how many people get nervous about a first date. I know a few people who choose not to date just because of having to go on that first one.
Dating isn’t as hard as some say. It’s definitely not what you see on TV where one person is a babbling idiot and the other is neurotic. Life isn’t like Sex and the City. Sorry. Dating is actually fun. Remember, the person you’re meeting on the other side of that door is will also be going on a first date too and probably is just as nervous as you.
Well, I’m here to help. I went through all of the dating expert articles in some of the leading magazines on the subject such as Cosmopolitan for the women and Maxim Magazine for the men and put together this list of first date tips. You don’t need to follow every single one to the dot but keep some of them in mind. Make a Backup Plan – The weather can change unexpectedly, restaurants can close from electrical problems, or you can lose those Red Sox tickets. Make a backup plan just in case your date plans take an unexpected turn.
Plan a Short Date - No need to plan out the rest of your lives together. Start with a simple, one or two hour date. If things go well, you can always keep the date going. However, there's nothing worse than having planned on an all-day event after you realize five minutes into the date that you have nothing in common with the other person.
Be Punctual - There's no greater sign of disrespect than being late for your first date. Get directions to your location, arrive early, and show your date that you care about them and the plans you made together. Consider it like a job interview. If you work hard enough, you’ll be paid extra at the end of the date. Agree on a Dress Code - When planning the date, talk about what you’ll be wearing. Nothing is more embarrassing if one person shows up in a suit while the other wears jeans and a sweatshirt. Compliment, But Don't Over Do It - A few nice words makes everyone feel good, but persistent comments about the other person's looks, personality, body, etc., gets old and can seem desperate and sometimes creepy.
Drink Responsibly - A few drinks may take the pressure off the date, but don't act like you're reliving your old frat days. Drinking too much will likely bring out some bad sides to your personality and that WON’T help your chances of a second date.
Balance Talking and Listening - Pay attention to the amount of time you spend talking versus listening. If the scale is weighing in either direction, look to balance it out. Try not to dominate the conversation with stories about yourself, either.
Now that you got your date and you’ve planned out everything to the exact detail, you’re going to need somewhere fun to go. Here is a list of some of the things you can do together:
Play some mini golf Visit a carnival or fair Go disco bowling Watch the sunrise or sunset together Go to a comedy club Visit a museum Plan a picnic in the park Go sightseeing in your own city Attend a sporting event such as a baseball game Rent canoes or a paddle boat and row around the nearest lake Take a cooking or pottery class together Go to the zoo Play a board game such as Trivial Pursuit Bake cookies together. Chocolate chip is a personal fave Drive to a nearby town you have never visited before
